Ok.. it seems kind of silly from someone who has lived here on and off for 17 years.. but there is a LONG list of things i hate about vegas..

1) LOW WAGES.. pay a decent way you will upgrade the quality of people who work for you..
2) Humans as expendable resources
3) Lack of accountability on the part of the government
4) New Reporting--suppressing the news to keep the visitors coming***
5) Transient lifestyle
6) No Humanity to our fellow man/womankind
7) The only thing GREEN about the majority of Vegas is Money-- there is ZERO recycling here
...and on and on..

but here is my "ISSUE" today***

thru my taxi connection I heard of 5 VERIFIED shootings on or near the strip. The only ones that actually made the news was last night's MGM shooting and an off strip shooting at the Minxxx Strip club during a private party and one that involved a fight for line jumping outside a liquor store near where the Peppermill is.

No mention has been made of a shooting at Caesar's Palace on friday night/saturday am even tho it shut down part of Industrial (or whatever its called now--Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin) and Twain

No Mention of the shooting at the pool at the Wynn this morning around 3am even though it shut down part of Sands Ave (aka spring mt)

But Rug-Dawg's dad -- who drives a taxi and works from 5am-5pm -- rolled into the aftermath (blocked streets) of both.

But what brings me to this point-- i know a LONG way around -- is that so many people were complaining about the wait for the taxis at all the event locations. There are many variables that contribute to this but the #1 reason in my opinion is that Las Vegas has ZERO traffic control. We are soo antiquated on our traffic patterns that its not surprising that it takes 30-40 minutes just to cross from one side of town to the other.

In most metro cities and Vegas is NOT a city.. it's a strip with suburbs... there is a flow to how the traffic rolls. If you are at a traffic light and it turns green, you should be able to hit at least 3 to 4 other lights before having to come to a stop. Not so in Vegas. 1 light turns green the next one is red and so forth. We also do not have a "don't block the box" which every one SHOULD know but doesn't seem to practice. When there is a back up at an intersection..do not PULL into the intersection --thus blocking the box-- so that you are caught when the light turns and BLOCK the otherside of traffic from going forward which was the #1 cause of slow traffic this weekend.

AND for locals.. if you KNOW a big event is in town.. DO NOT take your hoopty down to the strip and cruise.. walk it.. why the fuck would you want to get caught up in that mess.. bus down and walk it.. you'll see more and you'll get just as much out of it as cruising in your 1987 datsun.

Sooo there are you, about to be elected Governor of the fastest growing and most revenue rich state in the old US of A. you have name recognition and the person running against you is a *gasp*.. Woman.

You are a respected congressperson and have years of governmental experience.

But it's raining and what a perfect opportunity to get out of the rain but to stop at a good old boys watering hole called McCormick and Schmidt to have a drink with your campaign manager.

Sliding up to a table with two female acquaintences, you are spotted by the wife of a fellow you've known and her girlfriend who is looking kinda cute and sexy.

What do you do??

Finish your drink and leave?
Stay and have just one more for the road?
Slide your hand up her thigh and make suggestive noises?
Stand up and leave the place because you are a man of morality you've told us and you'd never put yourself in a compromising situation?

well apparently our Republican candidate, Jim Gibbons didn't debate long about his choice. Even if he took choice #2 and then decided to walk said hottie out to find her truck and never laid a hand on her, He still put Every driver on friday night at risk for her drunk ass.

now the accusitions have started. She says she was offered money then threatened if she didn't shut up and recant. well she can't recant her slurred voice on the 9-11 call.

Everyone ie focusing on if he 'asaulted' her AND her character as well.. has she done this before etc.. well let me tell you IT DOESN'T fucking MATTER.. the fact that here a high level government offical took her to her truck -- so he admitted-- while she was drunk is reason enough to withdraw from the race.

Here is the article about her news conference and his rebuttal. It seems he called on his friends in low places such as the DA and Sherriff to "help" him out here. it's a sad but amusing read.

in a recent post i talked about the rash of school related guns and violence. I believe that was Monday or Tuesday?? Well 2 more have happened in the last 24 hours. Some middle school kid brought a gun to school to show off to his friends. and at 12noonish today .. Las Vegas academy was on lock down who knows why and i haven't had the TV on to see.

Long time las vegas native and business owner Charlie Frias, owner of Ace and all related taxis, died after a long illness. I think the Obit will be out soon. BC works for Ace and Charlie took a personal interest in him with the Jamaican connection. Charlie liked to visit Jamaica and well BC is from Jamaica.

I have quite a few cyber and real life pals that live in Australia where a major cyclone just hit so i'm not without sympathy but I was AMAZED at the quick response GWB took to offer aid. NOLA is only 1/10 back if that and he's offering aid to Oz?? and so fucking quickly. Like in less than 24 hours.. if i recall correctly it took him or 4 or 5 days to acknowledge that NOLA and area was even in distress.

I think the day they had Leadership classes at Yale, GWB was off smoking pot or drinking cuz he sure has missed the boat.

Anyway that's my little jab for the day.
