We did 8 mini-websites all based on an independence day theme with titles taking off of red/white/blue.
they can all be seen over here:
Link-o-Rama but it started me thinking about what I've taught my jamaican and jamerican children about what our forefathers/mothers went through to get here and establish themselves including killing off millions of Native Americans.
History is never what it seems and we are still a baby country in the grand scheme of things and really no better than the barbarians of Rome or Greece or China that took the land they wanted, enslaved the indeginous that were there and did it all in the name of some god or goddess.
The face of this country is changing. we are moving to a more homogenous color scheme. As more and more children like Spud are being born, the fine line between "white" and "wrong" is blurred.
Every time i'm at the swap meet I see people I'd never think would be together . Yesterday this really redneck looking couple in their mid to late 70's was strolling along with what apparently were their children and grandchildren. Gramma was pushing a stroller with the cutest little girl happily chattering away with little pink bows in her decidedly large afro. Grandpa had 3 little boys jumping all around him and behind came 2 sets of parents. 1 obviously the son with his polynesian wife and 1 obviously their daughter, baby at her breast and her very tall Sengalese husband at her side. Could have been Cote d' Ivory but I think Senagal.
So when I saw this picture, it reminded me as it should every redblooded american living here, that not everyone who is born here looks exactly like someone else. and we come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
Tissue bless America (we just watched Hitchhikers guide to the universe--I love the john malkovich part)
